Customer Service 800-277-2177
Web site
AEP provides the hardware delivery system and most electrical service to UA households and businesses. Customers may choose from other electricity providers (details available from Ohio Consumers’ Counsel).
Power Outages
All customers experiencing a power outage are asked to contact AEP via the above options. In both cases, you are automatically entered into a tracking system enabling AEP to determine the extent and nature of an electrical problem. If the problem persists, please call AEP approximately every four hours, and again when power has been returned.
When to call the City of Upper Arlington for help
Police non-life threatening emergency 459-2800
• If an outage has affected streetlights or traffic signals.
• If you see a downed power line, especially if it is emitting sparks or causing a fire.
Help reduce problems with trees and utility lines
Power lines typically come into homes along utility easements at the rear or sides of properties. AEP performs routine tree-trimming maintenance to keep branches away from power lines. Residents can assist by not planting trees in the easement, and choosing slow-growing, smaller trees to be located close to power lines. Please contact AEP to report problems with trees and power lines. Do not attempt to trim branches close to or touching power lines.
The AEP Web site
The AEP web site features service options and useful information, including safety tips, what to do in the event of a storm and any resulting power outages, etc. Take a few moments to become familiar with this information as part of your family’s emergency preparedness planning.
Natural Gas
City of Upper Arlington Aggregation Program
The City is certified as a natural gas aggregator. This process allows consumers to form a group, creating greater buying power. As a natural gas aggregator, the City can negotiate rates, reliability and service needs on behalf of the aggregate pool. The best supplier is chosen based on proposed administration and overhead fees, past performance and service. Eligible residents include current participants in the aggregation program, residents currently purchasing their gas from Columbia Gas and residents not currently enrolled in the “Percentage of Income Payment Plan.” The gas aggregation contract is for the supply portion of your gas service only. Columbia Gas will continue to be responsible for distribution services and you will still receive your gas bill from Columbia Gas. The bill reflects the City’s aggregation rate with the selected supplier for the supply charge listed. The program began in 2005, with Interstate Gas Supply (IGS) as the provider. IGS was once again chosen as the 2006 supplier. The 2006 rate will be defined by mid-November 2005. Additional information on gas aggregation and supplier offers can be obtained from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio or from the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel (see over).
