Beggar's Night and Pumpkin Patrol
Beggar's Night will take place Wednesday, October 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. in all Upper Arlington neighborhoods.
Established in 1988, Pumpkin Patrol is the award winning Halloween safety program, which strives to keep Upper Arlington children safe in a fun way during Beggar’s Night. Beginning in 2005, Pumpkin Patrol/Beggar's Night will take place on October 31 from 6-8 p.m. regardless of the day of the week the date falls on.
Marked City trucks are outfitted with orange plastic pumpkins atop the flashing beacon lights on Beggar’s Night. The volunteers inside are City employees who are available to assist young children if they become lost, scared, hurt, or in need of assistance. All trucks are equipped with two-way radios to alert the appropriate emergency personnel. In addition, volunteers hand out candy to the children.
Pumpkin Patrol was awarded the 1991 Outstanding Crime Prevention Program by the Ohio Crime Prevention Association because of its unique method of reaching thousands of Upper Arlington youngsters.
