Kind Call is a free service funded by the Senior Services Levy through the Franklin County Office on Aging and with the cooperative efforts of the City of Upper Arlington, Upper Arlington Commission on Aging, Upper Arlington Fire and Police Divisions and the Rotary Club of Upper Arlington.

Kind Call is a telephone check-in program for any Upper Arlington resident. Calls may be tailored to individual needs that may include multiple calls in a day or calls only on certain days of the week. The resident sets the schedule.

Once the resident is enrolled in Kind Call, a computer will call the resident's home daily at a prearranged time. If everything is okay, the resident simply answers and then hangs up the phone. The computer will register that the resident has answered and no action will be taken.

If the resident does not answer the automated phone call, the Kind Call computer will call a pre-established contact (key holder) designated to keep a key to the home (a relative or neighbor, for example).

The key holder will be alerted that the resident has not responded and instructed to go to the home to check on the resident's well-being. If the key holder does not answer the designated call from the Kind Call Computer, the police and paramedics will be dispatched to the resident's home. If the resident does not have a "key holder," other options are available.

The Upper Arlington Kind Call Program has saved lives and helped many people to maintain independent living in their own homes.
