Sex Offender Details
Effective midnight, April 11, 2007, the City of Upper Arlington has enacted sex offender legislation, requiring that convicted sexual offenders register with the City’s Police Division if they live within the City’s boundaries. It also bars convicted sexual offenders from living or working within 1,000 feet of any school premises, licensed daycare facility, preschool, public park, swimming pool, library, or playground. Under this legislation, the Police Division will notify residents when a convicted sexual offender takes up residence within 1,000 feet of their home. Full details of this legislation can be obtained by clicking here.

D.A.R.E.
Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), is a 17-week program offered to fifth grade elementary students. D.A.R.E. is a proactive attempt by police officers to address the drug problem at its foundation, focusing on teaching youth the skills to recognize and resist pressures to experiment with drugs. The program also concentrates on self-esteem, risk taking, interpersonal communication skills, consequences of drug use, and positive alternatives to substance abuse. For information, call Officer Metcalf, at 614-583-5196.

Safety Town
Safety Town is a two-week summer safety program created for children ages five and six. During Safety Town, children learn about police officers, firefighters and the jobs they do, as well as teaching a variety of safety topics that include:
- Fire safety
- Gun safety
- Bicycle safety
- Stranger danger
- Bus safety
- Poison safety
- Animal safety
- Water safety

Safety Town registration is held in the spring through the Parks & Recreation Department, 3600 Tremont Road. Registration continues until all sessions are full. For information, call Community Relations at 583-5197.

Pumpkin Patrol/Beggar's Night
Beggar’s Night held every October 31, 6–8 p.m.
Pumpkin Patrol, a winner of the Ohio Crime Prevention Association’s Outstanding Crime Prevention Project Award, is comprised of City employee volunteers who drive City trucks throughout Upper Arlington neighborhoods giving candy to children and providing a safe haven for those who are lost, hurt or in need of emergency assistance. All vehicles utilized for Pumpkin Patrol have the City of Upper Arlington logo on the side and display a bright orange plastic pumpkin over the beacon lights. They are equipped with two-way radios to contact the appropriate emergency personnel. Contact the Community Relations Officer at
583-5197 for additional details.

Records Requests
Residents who wish to request a report on an accident, incident or other Police matter can do so between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Accident reports cost $4 each. Any other report is five cents per one-sided page. These are available to the requestee immediately.

If a resident desires a local records check or other type of police information (cruiser video, 911 call tape, etc.), he/she must fill out a City Public Records Request Form that specifically states what is being requested, along with the requestor's name and phone number in order to contact the person when the records are ready to be picked up. Sometimes, a fee is required before processing these requests. Videos, CDs and cassettes are $3 each or may be obtained by trading a used one for a new one.

Stealth Stat
Many residents have voiced their concerns about speeding motorists through residential communities and along the City's main roads. To help the Police Division focus its monitoring efforts on this issue, it has invested in a Stealth Stat. This small computer can be unobtrusively mounted on a pole to gather data on the frequency of traffic and speeds on any given road.

From the resulting report, officers obtain details of traffic flow and speeds, to identify the difference between actual and perceived speeding problems, and to focus their prevention efforts where they are most needed.

Stealth Stat is a tool residents can request for use in their neighborhood. Typically, the Stealth Stat is placed in each area for three days before moving on again, and request fulfillment is subject to availability and the order in which requests are received.

Stealth Stat results are posted on the City's Web site, enabling residents to see the results for their particular area of interest.

In addition, participants are taught physical self-defense techniques with practical applications. This program is offered through Lifelong Learning and Leisure. For more information, call Community Relations at 583-5197. The Police Division and High School also jointly offer a female self-defense program for college-bound high school seniors.
