D.A.R.E.
Drug Abuse Resistance Education, commonly referred to as D.A.R.E., is a preventive program aimed at equipping students with the skills to recognize and resist the pressures to experiment with alcohol, nicotine, and other drugs.
The concepts and objectives are an integral part of the fifth grade curriculum in all Upper Arlington City Schools as well as the private and parochial schools within the City.
Program strategies are planned to focus on feelings related to self-esteem, interpersonal and communication skills, decision-making and positive alternatives to drug use.
A uniformed police officer meets with each fifth grade class once a week for 10 weeks, culminating in a graduation ceremony.
Persons desiring additional information about the D.A.R.E. program may contact the Upper Arlington Police Division's D.A.R.E. officer, at 614-583-5196.
