Pinocchio – Drama
Be inventive and snag a plum role in this sparkling version of the Italian Pinocchio. Non-stop adventure with Geppetto, Fox and Cat, Blue Fairy, Candlewick the bad boy, Land of Hooky, Cricket and a puppet that wishes to become a real boy are all part of this commedia dell’arte. Performance Saturday, June 7, 11 am at the Columbus Arts Festival. This year we are performing at the Topiary Garden east of the Library.

Superheroes! – Drama
Seuss to Zeus put on a cape, carry a sword or wand and speak heroic messages from the Seuss tales. Each night a new story…new groups…new friends gather to tell legends of long ago in modern day settings. What do you do when everything you touch turns to gold in the Midas tale? Could you be Neptune, King of the Sea and rescue the Little Mermaid? Can you mix and match and come up with new tales each night? Be ready to wear capes and crowns. We perform our play nightly for parents the last 10 minutes of class.

Kinder/First Grade Spanish
Learn kindergarten and first grade curriculum in Spanish! ABCs, Numbers, Colors, Shapes, Vocabulary, Songs & Stories. Participate in simple conversations. Be challenged with activities that make you think in Spanish. Enjoy making tortillas and play games for a Spanish immersion experience. Let’s have fun learning Spanish! Please bring a folder.

Elementary Spanish Class
Learn the alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, greetings and important everyday vocabulary. Read books and dialogs to practice pronunciation and conversation. Discuss seasonal celebrations and cultural food enjoyed in Spanish speaking countries. Learn to make tortillas from scratch with a tortilla maker. Play games and hear stories in Spanish to enhance listening skills. Enjoy the challenge and fun in learning a second language! Please bring a folder and pen or pencil.

Club De Verano-Spanish Club
Let’s travel without leaving the city. We learn Spanish vocabulary for the traveler enjoying beach fun, sites to see, foods to eat, restaurants and family visits. We also learn songs, dances and make a cultural craft. Get your passport to weeklong fun while learning the Spanish language and culture this summer in practical ways with games, skits and a final outdoor fiesta!

Discover the secret techniques detectives use to solve crimes. Learn about the basics of human DNA and how it can be an important part of crime solving. See how analyzing the contents of solutions can provide valuable clues to a crime. Learn how to crack top secret codes. See how everyone’s fingerprints are different and learn the techniques detectives use to analyze them. Put all you’ve learned and experimented with to work analyzing a mock crime scene – just like real detectives do! Take home projects include a detective kit, a secret decoder system, a model skeleton, a secret agent triangle puzzle and more!

Introduce your child to the art world. This course is designed for the creative mind. Classes are taught in a positive, fun, caring atmosphere geared for success. This course gives your child a good basic understanding of art and techniques. Class entails introduction to drawing. The use of shapes, negative space, shading, values, perspectives, pen and ink techniques are introduced. Please bring a two pocket folder.

Abduction Safety/Self Defense
This is a safety awareness and self-defense course covering many safety issues that deal with exploring your own independence. Students are taught how to deal with personal safety issues when home alone, in public places, while walking home, and when using the Internet. In addition, each participant is trained in the basics of self-defense. UA Police Officers Heather Galli and Scott Metcalf teach the course.

Mowing Safety
Classroom instruction covers the dos and don’ts of handling a walk-behind power mower and weed wacker, as well as basic maintenance information. Starting and maneuvering the mower around trees, bushes and along a hill are covered. Pre-registration and closed toe shoes required. Parents are welcome to attend.

Red Cross Babysitting
Become a Red Cross certified, confident and responsible babysitter. This course teaches basic childcare, first aid, rescue breathing, accident prevention, growth development and supervision skills. A certified instructor teaches the class. Upon successful completion, participants receive their Red Cross Babysitting certificate and notebook. Please bring a sack lunch and drink to class. If possible bring a baby doll. Class size is limited to 24 students. This class is open to boys and girls.
