Therapeutic Recreation

“Fore Hope” Golf
Fore Hope is a non-profit organization that provides therapeutic golf programs. Each participant receives hands-on golf instruction by certified recreational therapists, PGA teaching professionals and volunteers.
Actual ‘play’ begins in week five. Golf clubs and balls are provided. There is a $10 weekly fee payable to Fore Hope plus the cost of greens and cart fees. Carpools may be formed.

Adult Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Social Club
The Parks & Recreation Department conducts a year-round program for persons 18 yrs and over who have a developmental and/or physical disability and need general supervision. Staffing is comprised of MR/DD specialists to offer proper supervision and careful planning. The staff/participant ratio is approximately 1:8.
There is a registration fee for this program. Admission fees for outings and field trips are extra. While the department makes every effort to accommodate all those who are interested, registration is limited. For details, please contact Ginny Houghton, 583-5302.

Saturday Therapeutic Recreation Program
This program is held in cooperation with The Ohio State University’s College of Education and Human Ecology, School of Physical Activity and Educational Services. Staff consists of special education, adapted physical education and sports and leisure study students.
The program is open to youth (7 years and over), teens and adults who have a developmental and/or physical disability, and need one-on-one or specialized assistance. Activities are broken down into appropriate skill levels geared toward each individual’s ability and include group socialization, basic and intermediate daily living skills, work on self-help skills, fine and gross motor coordination skills, arts and crafts, sensory stimulation and special events.
The staff has the capability of using sign language as needed. A staff/participant ratio of 1:3 or 1:4 is maintained to ensure proper supervision and careful planning.
There is a registration fee for this program, however scholarships are available thanks to a donation by Aid to Retarded Children #14. While the department makes every effort to accommodate all those who are interested, registration is limited. For information, contact Ginny Houghton at 583-5302.
