Spring/Summer 2009 Self-Care & Health Classes
*Mindful Relaxation
with Daron Larson
Are you feeling overwhelmed and stressed? Most of us tend to cultivate the habit of finding and focusing on physical and emotional discomfort while overlooking the available realm of restfulness. Learn to indentify and enjoy naturally-occurring restful states such as physical relaxation and the quiet pauses between thoughts. These states often occur spontaneously, but most of us don’t know how to detect them or how to allow them to spread and build momentum. However, this is an extremely useful skill that can be learned and developed. This class teaches how to identify the restful moments and relaxation hiding beneath the surface of ordinary experience.

*Mindful Eating
with Daron Larson
Eating can be an opportunity for developing concentration, sensory clarity and a balanced reaction to the natural flow of experience. This class introduces strategies for turning eating into a springboard for examining how feelings in the body drive compulsive behavior. It also explores ways in which we can get more satisfaction from the subtle, pleasant aspects of eating by simply slowing down and paying attention to the process. It can be empowering to directly observe the feelings that drive us to eat too much, too little or to rush through eating without even tasting our food. The skills of mindfulness, when practiced over time, can cultivate a more consistent level of contentment, independent of the ever-fluctuating conditions of your life.
