Rodger Pyle, who is currently working with the coaching staff of the U.S. National Karate Team, holds black belt rankings in several martial arts. He has been studying martial arts since the age of nine with his early training focused on Judo and at the age of fourteen he began studying Tae Kwon Do. In 1980, Sensei Pyle continued his martial arts training by studying the Japanese style of Shotokan Karate Do. In 1989, Sensei Pyle began studying Aikido. Presently he holds the rank of 5th Degree Black Belt in Japanese Karate Do and the Korean art of Tae Kwon Do, the rank of 2nd Degree Black Belt in Aikido, and 1st Degree Black Belt in Judo and Jujitsu.
