Honeysuckle Poppers
A recent glance at the October issue of Country Living magazine led me to an ad for the Honeysickle Popper. This six foot long pry bar device is designed to be inserted under the root crown of of the Asian Bush Honeysuckle to 'POP' the shrub out of the ground, roots and all. It can be ordered at www.honeysucklepopper.com or 1-877-POP-M-OUT.
This is a phone call that should have been made by the nice Dublin woman who was arrested TWICE for unlawful honeysuckle removal from the Dublin park adjacent to her home. Judas Priest would say that she was 'Breakin the Law, Breakin the Law'. I think that she should be given a medal and we should take up a collection to get her to move to Arlington near the Smith Nature Park. She would wear out several Honeysuckle Poppers just in that park alone, then we could move her on down to Cardiff Woods. We on the Tree Commission have been waiting in vain hope that some Eagle Scout candidate would take Smith Park on as a project and we have some lady in Dublin who would probably do it for free! I do wonder if the Popper would work on the immense Arlington honeysuckles that came over on the Mayflower - from Asia.
I am impressed that the Dublin gendarmes were able to find this lady twice as she was removing invasive nasty honeysuckles from the fair city of Dublin. U A police are too busy preventing home invasions and chasing SUV driving Natty Light drinking teens who are out after curfew. If the Dublin lady had owned a Popper she would have been in and out of the park in no time and never would have been caught. I am convinced though that any uprooted honeysuckles left behind would simply re root themselves and keep on growing.
