About the Parks & Recreation Department

The Parks & Recreation Department is responsible for many of the excellent recreational and leisure programs and facilities that are available in our community, catering to all ages and interests.

Adult Sports

The Recreation Division coordinates several adult sports leagues each year, including basketball, softball and volleyball.

Adventure Teens

Another series of programming coordinated by the Recreation Division, Adventure Teen participants can find themselves camping, hiking, white water rafting and more through the various day trips and action vacations on offer each year.

Aquatics

Upper Arlington owns and operates the community’s three outdoor swimming pools – Devon Pool, Hastings Pool, and Tremont Pool. The pools are open for operation each summer from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend. Season memberships can be purchased beginning in April each year. Daily admission passes are also available.

The Cultural Arts Division is in partnership with the Cultural Arts Commission and the Friends of the Arts to provide a variety of programs in the arts. The Cultural Arts Division serves the community of Upper Arlington by completing our mission to provide and promote a diverse, lively, accessible arts environment that advances the cultural assets and enriches the quality of life of the community. Cultural Arts programs include: Arts in Community Spaces; Arts in Work Spaces; Arts in Community Education; Concourse Gallery visual arts exhibits; Literary Arts; Music in the Parks free summer concerts; Music in the Chamber; Permanent Art Collection; The Upper Arlington Labor Day Arts Festival.

LifeLong Learning & Leisure Division

LifeLong Learning & Leisure is recognized as the largest non-credit community education program in Central Ohio. The division coordinates more than 500 fun and educational classes for adults in the community each year within the following categories - Personal Enrichment, Health, Travel, Language, Music, Dance, Visual Arts, Home and Garden, Cooking, Finance, Bridge, Sports and Fitness.

Parks & Forestry Division

The Parks & Forestry Division is responsible for the maintenance of City parks, landscapes, gateways and public lands, caring for more than 17,000 park and street trees, and countless active and passive recreational facilities within the parks, such as playgrounds, athletic fields and shelterhouses. The division also provides assistance for numerous community events.

Recreation Division

The Recreation Division plans and coordinates numerous classes, programs and special events for all ages of the community. It produces it programming brochure, "Get Rec, Get Set, Go!" three times per year, outlining the various classes, programs and special events available for toddlers, teens and adults.

Senior Center

The UA Senior Center is a drop-in recreation facility for persons age 55 years and over, owned by the City of Upper Arlington and operated by the Parks & Recreation Department. The Center provides an opportunity for UA and surrounding areas’ older adults to actively participate in a variety of unique social, cultural, educational, recreational and health related services and programs.

Northam Park Tennis

The City owns and operates the Northam Park Tennis Courts, located in Northam Park. The facility features 12 Har-Tru courts, unique for municipal tennis courts and touted by many as "the best soft-surface courts in Ohio." Northam Park Tennis is open early May through mid-October weather permitting.


Healthy Ohioans
The Parks & Recreation Department recognizes the benefit of overall health and fitness and is embarking on a healthy lifestyle initiative through special programming and ongoing activities. Our department has many activities and programs designed to keep families active through the summer.
