Feminine Mystique April 17-May 11, 2007
Reception Monday April 23, 6-7:30 p.m.
Featuring the artwork of Kristin Nortz and Phillip Chan, Feminine Mystique explores the themes of femininity and myth. Femininity, a term used to describe women collectively, is explored anthropologically through the found objects of Kristin Nortz’s work. Nortz is interested in how familiar objects have the ability to symbolize culture, femininity and humanity.

Contrasting the physical, Phillip Chan shares his metaphysical paintings inferring the female form through his brushstrokes on canvas, engaging the subconscious through abstract images of mythological forms. From Akron, Ohio and a Professor of Art at Youngstown State University, Chan has been in numerous exhibitions since he graduated from University of California Berkeley in 1976 with a Masters of Fine Arts.
Feminine Mystique invites the viewer to examine the intangible and tangible reflections of femininity, through the found objects of Nortz’s installation and Chan’s abstract paintings.
