Torpedo Thrown, handbuilt ceramic 9 x 16 x 6 inches by Scott Bennett |
The creative process for the artists of this exhibition begins with inspiration from nature. Diana McCormick believes all visual art is made up of symbols that have meaning, just as the written word does, these symbols can be seen as universal and can be looked at on a personal level. Diana’s simplified forms, in her paintings, convey ideas she feels, communicating not only her own vision, but also can be understood as a universal language. Contemplate McCormick’s abstract floral paintings interacting with the natural materials of the sculptures showcased in this exhibition.

Sherrie Gallerie, opened in 2004 by Sherrie Riley Hawk, is committed to exhibiting contemporary ceramics and art jewelry. Expanding their scope to include regional contemporary art and sculpture, the mission of the gallery is to “connect the collector to what the artist is expressing, while educating each other in the process and enjoying the pleasure art brings.” Scott Bennett, a contemporary artist of Sherrie Gallerie, received a Masters of Fine Art in Ceramics at Ohio State University in 1989 and continues to exhibit his sculpture in galleries and museums nationwide. Christine Federighi worked in clay for over 30 years, committed to a visual journey, registering events, experiences and small histories on the surface of the human figure. A professor of ceramics at the University of Miami for 32 years, her work has been widely exhibited nationally and internationally. Andy Nasisse has been working in clay for over 30 years and has been featured in numerous exhibitions and publications. Andy’s current group of vessels explores the notion that time is volumetric and that the container is like a moment in time, containing past, present, and future.
