The City of Upper Arlington is adjacent to The Ohio State University, the nation’s second largest university by enrollment and the largest by acreage. Enrollment for Autumn 2000 at the Columbus campus reached 36,092 undergraduate students and 47,952 total, including graduated and professional students.

As of December 1998, The Ohio State University offered 100 Doctoral degree programs, 177 undergraduate majors, 120 Master’s degree programs, and an estimated 10,500 courses.

According to a U.S. News & World Report special edition on America’s Best Colleges, The Ohio State University is ranked 20th of national public universities. Two programs are ranked in the top 50. The Fisher College of Business is ranked 16th best in the nation with seven programs in the top 20: Real Estate (3); Human Resources (4); Production and Operations (8); Finance (10); Marketing (11); General management (12); and Accounting (17). The College of Engineering is ranked 22nd in the Nation with three programs in the top 20: Industrial; Welding and Systems Engineering (14); Materials Science and Engineering (17); and Mechanical Engineering (20).
