Building Safety Seminars

2005 Building Safety Seminars Flyer (pdf file)
Each year, the City of Upper Arlington Development Department plans to recognize National Building Safety Week by presenting two informative seminars designed for residents, general contractors, design professionals, businesses and property owners in the community. The goal is to help community stakeholders learn about the value and importance of adhering to building codes to keep properties safe, neighborhoods and commercial districts attractive, and to enhance property values.

The 2005 seminars were held early May, with the theme, "Making Homes, Schools, and Workplaces Safe Together," to encourage all community stakeholders to learn about the value and importance of adhering to building codes - keeping properties safe, neighborhoods and commercial districts attractive, and to enhance property values.

Building Safety in Residential Dwellings
Whether you are replacing a furnace or planning a sizeable addition to your home, many building code requirements are in place to ensure the end result meets safety standards and, ultimately enhances the value of your home. Learn what projects require building permits and inspections, how the Development Department and Fire Division can assist you through this process, and have your questions or concerns addressed by knowledgeable staff.

Building Safety in Commercial Buildings
This seminar is designed to cater to all UA businesses and commercial property owners. Learn about the latest updates and requirements businesses must adhere to, what building improvements require permits and inspections, and have your questions and concerns addressed by the representatives of the Development Department and the Fire Division.

The International Code Council Foundation sponsors Building Safety Week, and works with communities around the world to promote the use, enforcement and understanding of the importance of building codes to public safety.

The importance of regulating and enforcing building codes is unfortunately often overlooked until a catastrophic tragedy occurs. By reviewing building plans, issuing building permits and inspecting buildings during and after construction, the City can help ensure that buildings in the community are safe, sound and accessible places to live, work, play and learn.
