Volunteers Make All the Difference

Be a part of the art and join our Coordinating Committee, a group of volunteers who plan the Festival. This dynamic group is working all year long alongside City Staff to produce this wonderful event. Following is a snapshot of the work that goes into producing such an event.

In January the Prospectus is sent to artists with a deadline for artists to submit in February. The Jury convenes in March to review the slides. In April we notify the artists of the Jury results. The deadline for artists to accept is at the end of May and then the Artists’ Management committee begins to construct the site from the artists whose work was accepted and fills in spaces available with the artists whose work was put on the waitlist. The Refreshments Committee, Arts Activities Committee, and Performance Committee begin to schedule the refreshments, art activities and performances for the event. We layout the guidebook in June and start to advertise for volunteers to help us at the event. The Logistics Committee marks the site and sets up the event September 1- 4. Artists arrive and the visitors arrive and we work hard all day for everyone and then clean up, go home, and start to plan for the next year’s event. At our Wrap-up meeting we strategize about how we can improve the event and start all over for the next year.

Onsite Volunteers

This artfully programmed community event at Northam Park is made possible through the generous donation of time and talents provided by more than 200 volunteers at the Festival. These vital volunteer positions include artist registration, booth sitting, set up and tear down of the site, pick up and delivery of artwork for patrons. These positions are all performed while making new friends, serving the community, and enjoying the festival. The range in age and interests of the volunteers vary from students to seniors creating a diverse group who are willing and able to handle a variety of tasks.

Be a part of the art and volunteer to help make this event a success. Interested in volunteering in 2008 please email arts@uaoh.net with your contact information and indicate that you are interested in volunteering at the festival.
