Auto Tags, Driver’s License and Title Transfer
Driver's License
No specific grace period is identified under Ohio law for converting an out-of-state driver’s license to an Ohio license, however 30 days is traditionally considered the maximum time limit by Ohio courts and police agencies.
New Ohio residents with a valid driver’s license from another state should visit an Ohio Highway Patrol exam station to turn in their old license and take vision and written tests.

Auto Tags - Arriving From Out-of-State
Visit a vehicle inspection station to have your car’s vehicle identification number verified (most car dealers can provide this service). Then, take the inspection number and your out-of-state title to convert your license tags to Ohio plates to one of the following locations:
Franklin County Auto Title Department
1484 Morse Road, Columbus, 614-462-4829

Bureau of Motor Vehicles

Auto Tags - In-State
New auto tags can be obtained from:
Bureau of Motor Vehicles
4662 Cemetery Road, Hilliard, 614-529-1203
112 Dillmont Avenue, Columbus, 614-436-6381
2970 Hayden Road, Columbus, 614-766-7769
4503 Kenny Road, Upper Arlington, 614-459-4441
1472 Morse Road, Columbus, 614-781-0060
1970 W. Broad Street, 614-752-7500
Each year, Ohio residents must register their vehicles and a taxing district is assigned to each registration. This designation affects the fees assessed and funds allocated to the City. Franklin County’s taxing district number is 2506.
Remember to list Upper Arlington as your place of residence to ensure the City will receive some revenue from these fees.
