From the bedrock of the Devonian age to the celebration of the Bicentennial years of 1976 and 1987, this history of Upper Arlington (Columbus, Ohio) and its people represents the culmination of extensive research into the origin, development, and nature of the city and the land on which it stands.
In reconstructing the history of Upper Arlington as accurately and objectively as possible, 29 volunteer authors coordinated personal interviews, old records, local publications, maps and plats, pictures, reminiscences, and individual research to provide 23 chapters and 68 photographs. Subjects range from geology, Indians and early families, to government, schools, organizations, cultural arts, and other significant aspects. An additional 12 volunteers helped the original authors create this revised second edition, adding two chapters, 24 illustrations, and information regarding the decade 1977 – 1987.
The History of Upper Arlington tells a story of exhilarating progress; it is a graphic, comprehensive narrative of the community and its people, and the influences that shaped their character. It is also the fruition of diverse efforts to provide an accurate reference source and to furnish the Upper Arlington Historical Society a solid base for future undertakings.
